Disclaimer: Runaway Bulldog does not have a political agenda. We report news that we think students should care about. This issue’s main story deals with the elections tomorrow; we are not telling anyone who to support. We think it’s important that students know what’s going on, so we made a guide to make it easier. That’s it! If politics aren’t for you, then maybe gingers and football are (so scroll down).

The story

Elections are tomorrow. Just in case you didn’t know.

That’s it?

Hold up. We sat down with Terry Wolf last week. Don’t you dare ask “who’s that.” She has been a state rep for the past four years, and was a school board member the nine years before that. So, we feel like she might know what she’s talking about. But that’s just us. We asked her, election-wiki, what issues high school students should be most concerned with.

And?

There are five: good education, student debt, school safety, drugs, and mental health. We outlined candidates’ perspectives on most of these in our political guide. We did it all: U.S. house of reps, executive council, state senate, and state house of reps. We created it out of love, and especially for all of our student readers, who may want to know more than just how how well our sports teams are doing.

Anything Else?

Wolf said that the most important thing to look for in a candidate is if they are out to solve problems, and how they conduct themselves. She recommends BCTV’s interviews. And, we’re listening to her, because, you know, she’s election-wiki. We do what she says.

Why should I really care?

Yeah, as students we can’t vote. But Wolf said that, as a state rep, she represents the entire community, not just the voters. Wolf disclosed that her committee shot down a senator’s idea to add a mandatory SAT prep course to BHS’ curriculum. Terry Wolf, you’re our hero. No one ever say that our reps aren’t looking out for us. Also, the seniors will be selling Krispy Kremes in the hallway. We mean, that’s why we really care about elections.

The Runaway

We have elections tomorrow. And we have no school tomorrow. You decide which one’s more important.

What to do…

When your friend asks you to jump of a cliff…

Stand with one foot off the edge. This is Nashua’s problem right now. Adults, by state law, are allowed to carry concealed weapons anywhere, including school property. BHS is currently staying cemented to that cliff. However, Nashua school district is doing the one foot on, one foot off thing. Their policies used to prohibit guns on school grounds. Now, in compliance with the state, concealed guns are allowed. With it being parent-teacher conference season, they may find that a lot of Fs go up to As with the concealed carry law. We were curious how BHS students feel about this (meaning the law — we can say with a lot of assurance that BHS students are totally fine with all NCYs going up to As). We conducted an Instagram poll to find out if they think parents should be allowed to carry a gun on school property. Results: 14% voted “if they want to,” and 86% voted “hell no.” Call us crazy, but we don’t want guns in our schools, even if they are being toted by our sweet grandma.

When you hear that Tom Brady is sooo last year…

Forget discussing who is the GOAT. Runaway Bulldog only cares about the GGOAT. Greatest Ginger of all time. Thomas Morgan, our QB, was just named the Union Leader’s September athlete of the month. Andy Dalton? They’ve never heard of him. Once again: suck it Andy Dalton — we only have room for one ginger in our hearts. The award is not only out of high school sports, but college sports too. The article kindly lists out everyone else considered. They probably do this out of consideration for them, but we take it as making Morgan look even better. And, on top of that, we won our quarterfinal game against Goffstown on Saturday. As the September athlete of the month, we’re expecting Morgan to lead his team to that trophy.

When real football is feeling left out…

One up that fake American football. We don’t know if Ryan Sledjeski is one-upping Thomas Morgan, but we are definitely bowing down to him. Sledjeski was chosen as one of the top 40 soccer players in the country to play in the All-American game in Orlando. It’s no big deal right? And, boys soccer just won the championship on Saturday, their first D-I title ever. Football better win in two weeks or soccer really will one-up them.

When “just okay” does not cut it…

Find the best of the best, no matter what it’s for. BHS’s solution? Really, the only solution? Pull Pam Ilg out of retirement. Ilg has conquered elementary schoolers and high schoolers, and we think she’s battled crocodiles. So, we feel like she’s ready to be Bedford’s interim dean of student services. The crocodiles thing sold us.
