The Story

Call the limo rental company because Bedford is putting on both junior and senior proms.

Give us the gist.

The theme for both proms is Masquerade, because apparently the Prom Committees are just so attached to the raving mask fashion lately. Senior prom is on Saturday, May 15th and junior prom is on Saturday, May 22nd. Both proms are happening at the Doubletree in Manchester, and both will have enough seats for everyone in each class to attend. However, students can only attend one prom; they can’t go to both junior and senior prom, which is unfortunate for all the indecisive souls out there.

What’s the deal with tickets?

Before students can buy tickets, parents have to fill out an Acknowledgement of Possible Quarantine form, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Senior prom tickets are $65 and junior prom tickets are $70, which includes the student and their date. The difference in price is because last year the seniors got money from a Krispy Kreme fundraiser, but they never had a prom so that money never got used. We guess that extra money is one good thing that came from COVID. Tickets will be assigned to students’ names, which means no giving tickets to someone else. And also students don’t actually need their ticket to get in, as long as they’re on this list. We wonder if they’ll have bouncers…

What about COVID?

Students will have to wear masks unless they’re eating, which is nothing new and conveniently fits with the theme. Students who don’t stay for dancing will not have to quarantine in the event of a positive case that is traced back to prom, but because there won’t be any pesky plexiglass separating the tables like at BHS, students who share a table with a student who tests positive will have to quarantine. However, any students who are fully vaccinated and 14 days have passed since their last shot by the time of prom will not have to quarantine. Would ya look at that, being vaccinated allows you more freedom!

What’s this about dancing?

Typically a staple occurrence at most school dances, this year’s proms will be no different. The school is encouraging dancing within friend groups and COVID bubbles, but they understand that this suggestion can’t and won’t be enforced. Anyone who stays at prom once dancing begins and is not fully vaccinated will be required to quarantine in the event of a positive COVID case.

What about students from other districts?

The same rules apply for out-of-district students who want to attend one of Bedford’s proms. They will need to have a BHS student buy tickets and they’ll need to fill out the Prom Guest Form. This is just to ensure that the school knows exactly who is at the dance and holds them to the same Code of Conduct as BHS students. So no scoodly-pooping will be allowed.

What about parking?

Parking will only be $6, a true steal if you ask us. Students who attend the dance will need to get their parking passes validated though, or it will be much more expensive, and no one wants to pay a bunch of money for parking after a night of partying.

The Runaway

Get those dancing shoes out, because prom is on!

What to Say…

When you thought you were done with prep books…

Psych! These two weeks after break are going to be jam-packed full of AP and IB exams. We know you just can’t wait. Exams used to be held in lots of different locations, but this year due to COVID all exams are being held on campus, in either the mini gym or the library, with a couple exceptions. Mr. Cannon sent out an email a couple weeks ago with specific information regarding dates and locations, so for those of you’re taking any AP or IB exams, make sure to check your email. Last year, most of the AP and IB exams were significantly altered and reduced because of the whole pandemic thing that resulted in students having less in person time for learning. You’d think the same logic would apply to this year as most schools were fully remote or hybrid for most of the year, but why make life easier when you can just keep the exams the same as usual and tell teachers to assign more homework? We’re just a bit salty that most exams have not been changed to accommodate the peculiar circumstances that this year presented. On the bright side, classes that end with an AP or IB exam end within the next two weeks, which means more free time for all those overachievers.

When your boss finds your TikTok account…

Last week, a few Bedford police officers got into some trouble for posting TikToks while on the job. One officer made multiple TikToks while on duty in his cruiser and uniform. One resident who filed a formal complaint was particularly upset about this officer’s “no liberals allowed” comment in one video. Yikes. Another officer made videos mocking getting shot and stabbed. The officer made a joke that someone pointed a gun at him and he proceeded to pull his window up and drive away. In another video, he told someone to stop stabbing another person while a humorous song played. Double yikes. Both officers are now on paid administrative leave, and the Bedford police chief, John Bryfonski, says that the police department is investigating the videos and they will review the department’s policies. The Bedford police department has pretty strict rules about officer conduct on and off duty, and Chief Bryfonski said that officers in the department are not permitted to make any political posts on social media, especially while they’re working and in uniform. We’re not sure what consequences these officers will face, but maybe the Bedford PD should leave the TikTok making business to Mrs. Noe.
