The story

The spring sports are going into playoffs. Well, most of them.

Baseball

Baseball is doing…pretty good? They’re in seventh, and with 15 teams moving on to play offs, there’s no worry that they’re in trouble. We’ll easily make it into quarterfinals, but after that? We shall see. So, are they our football of spring? The Union Leader seems to think so, along with softball-it’s all they talk about. But we prefer the sports where the players hit each other. This season, junior pitcher Trevor Anibal has carried the team to success, along with sophomores Michael Pratte and Kyle Lavigne.

Softball

Softball is in 11th, and has a solid spot in the playoffs. They will probably be fighting to get out of the preliminary round, but we think that they can do it. With four games left, we’re predicting that they’ll end 11 and 8, tying Portsmouth, and possibly bumping up a couple of spots. But we’re no psychics, just a little overconfident about a sport that we don’t know the rules to. Throughout the season, senior pitcher Maddie Fraitzl has been strategic for their wins, along with juniors Caroline O’Donnell and Morgan Fraitzl, and freshman Caity Lemay.

Girls Lacrosse

The creme de la crème of spring sports! (Of team sports-no one can compete with tennis!) They’re currently in second, having beaten a very good BG team. What can we say, it makes us happy. But they are behind Pinkerton, which was obviously purposeful. It’ll hurt that much more when they beat them in playoffs. Their top players this season have been senior Hannah McCarthy at attack, senior Sydney Lynch at midfield, and junior Zoe Michaud on defense.

Boys Lacrosse

Okay, this one has us a little stressed out. They’re the ones making us say “most teams are making playoffs.” Nine teams make it into playoffs, and we’re in tenth (6-8)! Oof, it’s painful. We have two games left, and we need to win both to make it into playoffs. Can we do it? Yeah. Will we? Ehhh, shoulder shrug. But we’re not losing hope yet. Senior Ryan Toscano and junior John Giroux have consistently been the top scorers all season-hopefully they can pull us through.

Boys Tennis

We’re. In. First! We mean, as always. No surprise here. Not only are we in first, the team is undefeated. And, to top it off, out of the 14 matches played so far, one was close (5-4), one was close-ish (6-3), two were standard 8-1s, and the rest were 9-0s. The top six have remained the same throughout the season: senior Jason Boucher, senior Tyler Whitney, freshman Derek Dong, senior Alex Tjie, sophomore Nick Bayer, and sophomore Bohdan Higley.

Girls Tennis

And, once again, we’re number one! Like the boys, the team is undefeated, but have had even fewer close matches-only one 7-2 and one 8-1. The team’s top six have remained the same, although the order changes: sophomore Carly Citron, sophomore Taylor Suozzo, senior Caroline Herz, junior Abby Tjie, senior Sophia Dimos, and junior Katelyn Hirnak. The team predicted that BG and Derryfield would be their top competition this season, and, to be fair, those were the only “close-ish” matches.  But we’re pretty sure we have that championship title locked down.

Outdoor Track

You know, we’re sure that they’re running really fast. And, they’re doing some jumping and throwing too. But we’re really just waiting for their championship meet this Friday. That’s when it really matters.

The Runaway

All hail girls lacrosse as the football of spring!

What to say…

When you’re trying to stay on top of school board stuff and you missed last Monday…

Don’t worry about it. Nothing much happened. They looked at the Data Governance Manual, reviewed their GADA policy (Nope! No idea what it stands for), and Mr. Fournier nominated Holly Doe for Technology Director. We think that was it, but we fell asleep. So don’t quote us.

When absolutely nothing happened last week…

Uhhh…prom? Right. Yes. We think we made it through with no arrests (to the Union Leader’s disappointment), which is all we can ever hope for. And, if you care, Niamh Russell and Jared Steinberg were named prom queen and king.
